Surprisingly defeated by OGC Nice last week, Paris Saint-Germain FC responded in the best possible manner with a 4-0 victory against Évian Thonon Gaillard FC at Parc des Princes.

Zlatan Ibrahimović was the opening scorer, the Sweden striker breaking the deadlock just before the half-hour mark with his 14th strike in 13 Ligue 1 appearances. Ezequiel Lavezzi continued his fine form in front of goal to double the advantage soon after. Two late goals in three minutes from Kévin Gameiro and Thiago Motta rubbed salt into Évian's wound. PSG move second in the standings, two points behind Olympique Lyonnais, who travel to AS Saint-Étienne on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Stade Rennais FC and Valenciennes FC both missed out on the chance to move up to fourth, a point adrift of PSG. Rennes looked set to do so but Charlison Benschop struck three minutes from time to earn Stade Brestois 29 a 2-2 draw. Rennes are therefore sixth, a place below Valenciennes after Daniel Sanchez's side were held to a 1-1 draw at AS Nancy-Lorraine, who remain bottom as a result of ES Troyes Aube Champagne's 1-1 draw against OGC Nice. Dario Cvitanić earned the visitors a share of the spoils in added time.

Montpellier Hérault SC, meanwhile, enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 triumph over AJ Ajaccio, while LOSC Lille were held to a 1-1 draw away to FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.
