Paris Saint-Germain FC moved alongside Olympique Lyonnais and Olympique de Marseille on 35 points at the top of Ligue 1 after edging Lyon 1-0 in the French capital.

Carlo Ancelotti's side were far from their best in the first half but made sure not to squander their chance to take the lead, Blaise Matuidi heading in from Zlatan Ibrahimović's cross in first-half added time as PSG attacked on the break. Instead of mounting a fierce effort after the interval, Lyon faded as a force, and they ultimately needed goalkeeper Rémy Vercoutre to deny Javier Pastore and Ezequiel Lavezzi to keep the scoreline down.

Also on Sunday, FC Lorient climbed up to fourth thanks to a 2-0 success at AS Saint-Étienne, their fourth consecutive Ligue 1 win. Jérémie Aliadière got the visitors off the mark with a left-footed effort on 20 minutes and Alain Traoré doubled their lead with a powerful header before the break, later being substituted due to an ankle injury.

St-Étienne now lie eighth, one spot behind FC Girondins de Bordeaux, who lost André Poko to a red card in a 1-1 draw at bottom club AS Nancy-Lorraine.
