Marseille leave it late to overcome Montpellier

André and Jordan Ayew both scored as Olympique de Marseille came from behind to register a dramatic 3-2 victory at home to Montpellier Hérault SC and move second in Ligue 1.

André-Pierre Gignac's added-time winner condemned Montpellier Hérault SC to a chastening 3-2 defeat and moved Olympique de Marseille to within a point of Ligue 1 leaders Olympique Lyonnais.

Memories of last weekend's 3-1 reverse at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard began to fade when André Ayew (14) turned in Joey Barton's centre. The hosts' mood changed, though, as Emanuel Herrera levelled, before John Utaka steered the visitors ahead after the break. Jordan Ayew followed his brother's lead to ensure a frantic finale, culminating in Gignac's seventh and most-celebrated strike of the season.

Saturday's other big movers were FC Lorient, who climbed three positions to fourth by edging out ES Troyes AC 3-2. AS Saint-Étienne also gained ground in the top half thanks to a 1-0 win against Stade Brestois 29, while bottom-placed AS Nancy-Lorraine succumbed 2-1 at Toulouse FC.

In the early kick-off, Sochaux prevailed 1-0 at home to Stade de Reims to move three points clear of their relegation rivals. As for AC Ajaccio, they were held 1-1 by Valenciennes FC, who lost Benjamin Angoua to a red card after 63 minutes.
