PSG win thrilling Classique to stay top

Paris Saint-Germain FC maintained their three-point lead in Ligue 1 with a 2-0 victory against Olympique de Marseille, after second-placed Olympique Lyonnais also claimed a win.

Paris Saint-Germain FC maintained their three-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 and dealt a major blow to Olympique de Marseille's title hopes with a 2-0 success in Le Classique, on a day when second-placed Olympique Lyonnais also triumphed.

PSG prevailed 2-0 at the Parc des Princes, but the scoreline did not reflect the true nature of a thrilling game. Ezequiel Lavezzi struck the post early on for the hosts, and the breakthrough came on 11 minutes as Lucas' effort deflected off Nicolas N'Koulou and wrong-footed OM goalkeeper Steve Mandanda.

Knowing defeat would leave them eight points off the top, Élie Baup's side threw everything at the hosts and Salvatore Sirigu was forced to make crucial saves from André-Pierre Gignac, Mathieu Valbuena and Rod Fanni after the break. However, the capital side survived the storm and Zlatan Ibrahimović turned in a second in added time.

Lyon had briefly moved level with the leaders on 51 points earlier in the day, after coming from behind to earn a hard-fought 3-1 win in the snow against FC Lorient. Jérémie Aliadière put the visitors ahead at the Stade de Gerland, before Lisandro responded by sliding a low shot below Fabien Audard. Rachid Ghezzal tapped Lyon ahead just after the interval, before Arnold Mvuemba wrapped things up in added time with a goal against his former club.

Elsewhere, FC Girondins de Bordeaux suffered a heavy fall back to earth following Thursday's UEFA Europa League success against FC Dynamo Kyiv. Ahmed Kantari's penalty added to a Benoît Trémoulinas own goal as Stade Brestois 29 handed Francis Gillot's men a 2-0 home loss.
