PSG win as Beckham bids farewell

Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain FC precursed their coronation by beating Stade Brestois 29 in David Beckham's swansong, while AS Saint-Étienne beat Olympique de Marseille.

Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain FC precursed their coronation by prevailing 3-1 against Stade Brestois 29 in their final home game of the season.

Billed as David Beckham's career swansong, PSG's No32 was honorary captain, but it soon became the Zlatan Ibrahimović show. The prolific Swede scored twice in the first half – a powerful angled drive and a fierce free-kick – and went through his full repertoire of tricks. Those goals sandwiched Beckham's moment in the sun, as Blaise Matuidi volleyed in his precise corner, and though Charlison Benschop hit a late consolation, it proved the ideal juncture for Beckham's substitution and a tearful farewell.

Meanwhile, with heavy rain postponing the OGC Nice-Olympique Lyonnais contest until Sunday, AS Saint-Étienne put pressure on both those sides in the fight for third place by beating Olympique de Marseille. Going into the final matchday, just three points separate current incumbents Lyon and sixth-placed Nice. Fifth-placed LOSC Lille consolidated their position in the mix with a goalless draw against Montpellier Hérault SC.

At the bottom, AS Nancy-Lorraine could not find the win they required against SC Bastia to stand a chance of retaining their top-flight status, although Fabien Camus' strike means ES Troyes AC live to fight another day after edging out FC Girondins de Bordeaux.

Évian Thonon Gaillard FC are one of three sides clear of the danger zone by three points after a vital win against Valenciennes FC, kick-started by last week's hero Saber Khelifa.
