Olympique de Marseille overcame Évian Thonon Gaillard FC 2-0 at Stade Vélodrome to match Olympique Lyonnais' perfect start to the season following their Friday night win.
André-Pierre Gignac gave his side a 16th-minute lead with a fine individual goal, gliding past his marker and finding a bottom corner from outside the box. Dimitri Payet, a summer recruit from LOSC Lille, doubled OM's advantage midway through the second half, rifling in the rebound to score his third goal in two games after Mathieu Valbuena's volley was parried into his path.
The win kept OM level with Lyon, who recorded back-to-back victories by edging out FC Sochaux-Montbéliard 3-1 on Friday. Ryad Boudebouz's early penalty meant Rémi Garde's charges had to come from behind. Yassine Benzia's first Ligue 1 goal was supplemented by Alexandre Lacazette's third of the campaign before the break and Yoann Gourcuff, who impressed against OGC Nice last week, curled inside the right post to complete the scoring.
There were contrasting emotions at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in the pick of the matches elsewhere, as AS Saint-Étienne also maintained their 100% start by inflicting a second defeat on promoted EA Guingamp. Fabien Lemoine's superb strike was the only goal in a slender win.
