Olympique de Marseille moved level with AS Monaco FC at the top of Ligue 1 by ending a run of three games without a win to sink AS Saint-Étienne 2-1.
Goals within four first-half minutes proved enough for OM as Benjamin Mendy drove Mathieu Valbuena's cross into the corner of the net to open the scoring on 22 minutes before Giannelli Imbula converted Rod Fanni’s cross to make it two shortly after. With the chance to become outright Ligue 1 leaders should they claim the three points, St-Étienne fought back and Faouzi Ghoulam reduced the deficit on 32 minutes from the penalty spot, but the hosts prevailed to move on to 14 points, level with Monaco, who face SC Bastia on Wednesday.
LOSC themselves moved third following a routine home success against Évian Thonon Gaillard FC. Salomon Kalou put the hosts ahead on 12 minutes, flicking in Florent Balmont's shot with his heel, before Nolan Roux's header came back off the crossbar before bouncing in off unfortunate goalkeeper Jesper Hansen before the break. Ronny Rodelin rounded things off in the 71st minute, pouncing on a short pass back to Hansen to slide in.
