PSG beat Marseille as Montpellier hit five

Zlatan Ibrahimović's penalty helped ten-man Paris Saint-Germain FC beat Olympique de Marseille in 'Le Classique', as Montpellier Hérault SC overran Olympique Lyonnais.

Zlatan Ibrahimović converted a second-half penalty to hand ten-man Paris Saint-Germain FC victory against Olympique de Marseille.

PSG required a win in 'Le Classique' to keep up with pacesetters AS Monaco, but it seemed a long way off when Thiago Motta was shown a 31st-minute red card after conceding a penalty. OM forward André Ayew stayed cool from the spot.

Maxwell's terrific header restored parity on the cusp of half-time, and PSG took control midway through the second period. Ayew went from hero to villain by fouling Marquinhos in the area and Ibrahimović beat Steve Mandanda to secure the bragging rights for PSG.

Earlier, Victor Montaño and Rémy Cabella each scored twice as Montpellier Hérault SC overwhelmed Olympique Lyonnais 5-1 at Stade de la Mosson. Alexandre Lacazette pulled a goal back for Lyon following the break after Montaño and Anthony Mounier had given the hosts a half-time lead. However, a rampant Montpellier hit three goals inside ten second-half minutes to blow away OL, who had Maxime Gonalons sent off late on.

Meanwhile, Cheick Diabaté also scored a double as FC Girondins de Bordeaux earned a similarly emphatic win, triumphing 4-1 against FC Sochaux-Montbéliard despite going behind to Roy Contout's goal.
