Olympique de Marseille have fallen ten points behind Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain after a 1-1 draw at Stade Rennais FC.
Paris prevailed 4-0 against FC Lorient on Friday, and Élie Baup's charges were keen not to surrender more ground. Nélson Oliveira had other ideas and his stunning strike – his third goal in two games – dealt OM an early blow. Jordan Ayew quickly responded, but a winner proved elusive. In the end, the visitors were grateful to goalkeeper Steve Mandanda for denying Oliveira from the penalty spot with 15 minutes left.
Match winner at the Stade Vélodrome last week, Prince Oniangue was again on the scoresheet as in-form Stade de Reims overcame SC Bastia 4-2. Reims moved level on 18 points with Marseille in the process, as did AS Saint-Étienne with a goalless draw at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.
Meanwhile, Olympique Lyonnais finally brought their slump to an end, dispatching EA Guingamp 2-0 at Stade Gerland. Two goals inside a minute early on, from Alexandre Lacazette and Bafétimbi Gomis, brought a first victory in six against a side that finished with ten men.
A Grégory Pujol double helped Valenciennes FC vanquish fellow strugglers AC Ajaccio for only their second win, while Évian Thonon Gaillard FC required Cédric Mongongu's last-minute penalty to account for Toulouse FC.
