Fourth-tier AS Yzeure provided the shock of the day in the French Cup by eliminating Ligue 1 club FC Lorient, while a goal from former UEFA Champions League winner Ludovic Giuly helped unfancied MDA Foot Chasselay into the last 32.
Lorient, ninth in the top flight, had no answer to a 24th-minute strike from Steve M'Bida at the Stade de Bellevue. Yzeure coach Nicolas Dupuis, who turns 46 on Monday, said: "I was a bit scared 30 minutes from time when we missed one or two chances. Against a team like Lorient it could have cost us, but we did it with our hearts supported by 2,000 fans, and they are to thank too."
Giuly, meanwhile, put Chasselay ahead at home to Ligue 2 strugglers FC Istres, who equalised through Cheick Diarra. Yzeure's divisional rivals prevailed 3-2 on penalties.
Elsewhere, FC Sochaux-Montbéliard (3-0) and Toulouse FC (2-1) triumphed away to FC Bressuire and Stade Olympique Romorantinais respectively. In Saturday's sole all-Ligue 1 affair, Stade Rennais FC defeated Valenciennes FC 8-7 on spot kicks following a 1-1 draw in Brittany, Tiémoué Bakayoko converting the winning penalty.
AS Monaco FC, LOSC Lille and Olympique de Marseille enter the fray on Sunday, but Paris Saint-Germain FC's tie at Stade Brestois 29 has been postponed because of heavy rain.
