Monaco close on leaders Paris with Marseille win

AS Monaco FC have pulled within three points of Paris Saint-Germain by defeating Olympique de Marseille 2-0, following wins for Olympique Lyonnais and FC Girondins de Bordeaux.

AS Monaco FC have clawed back within three points of Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain after defeating Olympique de Marseille 2-0.

Playing for the first time since striker Falcao suffered a knee injury, Claudio Ranieri's side took advantage of Paris's 1-1 draw at EA Guingamp on Saturday to raise the tension in the title race. Valère Germain opened the scoring with his first goal of the campaign following good work from João Moutinho four minutes before the break, and Emmanuel Rivière turned in a Geoffrey Kondogbia cross after the restart to seal the result.

Olympique Lyonnais climbed up to fifth as they swept aside Évian Thonon Gaillard FC 3-0 to make it 12 games unbeaten in all competitions. The contest was only 19 minutes old when Bafétimbi Gomis scored from close range. Alexandre Lacazette doubled the lead three minutes after Évian defender Jonathan Mensah had been dismissed and then added a third in the second half by slotting in at the back post.

FC Girondins de Bordeaux are a place back in sixth following their comfortable 2-0 win at home to fourth-placed AS Saint-Étienne. Abdou Traoré and defender Henrique found the net either side of the interval.
