Paris Saint-Germain claimed the first silverware of the season in France, defeating Olympique Lyonnais 2-1 to lift the League Cup.
Having lost in Ligue 1 to Rémi Garde's men last Sunday, Paris gained their revenge in style as Edinson Cavani struck twice before the interval to establish an insurmountable scoreline. Alexandre Lacazette pulled one back after the restart, but Lyon could not prevent the capital club from lifting the trophy for the first time since 2008.
The league leaders opened the scoring in the fourth minute when Cavani tapped in following excellent play down the left from Maxwell. The Uruguay forward doubled Laurent Blanc's team's advantage just after the half-hour mark, firing in from the penalty spot after OL keeper Anthony Lopes had brought down Lucas.
Lyon, whose only triumph in the competition came in 2001, halved their arrears in the 56th minute when Lacazette beat two men during a slaloming run before slotting into the corner. Les Gones pushed for an equaliser, Nabil Fekir shooting into the side netting with ten minutes to go, but they could find no way through for a second time, meaning Paris secured a record fourth League Cup triumph.
