Paris Saint-Germain have set a new Ligue 1 record by amassing 86 points after winning 3-1 at LOSC Lille, whose advantage in third place has been cut to just two points by AS Saint-Étienne.
If the prospect of facing the champions was a tough one, a 37th-minute straight red card for Marvin Martin made life more difficult still for LOSC against Paris. Marquinhos scored four minutes later, before Lucas and Blaise Matuidi trebled the advantage for an on-song Paris in the second half. A late response from Jonathan Delaplace was scant consolation for LOSC, who are nervously glancing over their shoulders.
Mevlut Erdinç scored two as St-Étienne dispatched FC Nantes 3-1 and Les Verts can now pip LOSC to third, and the final UEFA Champions League place, should they win at home next weekend against already-relegated AC Ajaccio and Lorient FC beat Les Dogues. St-Étienne are certain at least of a UEFA Europa League place.
Elsewhere, Cheick Doukouré scored the decisive goal as Lorient won 1-0 at Olympique Lyonnais to keep OL's own UEFA Europa League hopes in the balance. A fourth win in five games for FC Sochaux-Montbélliard, meanwhile – a 2-0 success against Stade Rennais FC – sets up a final-day decider with fellow strugglers Évian Thonon Gaillard FC. Win and they will complete a remarkable escape.
