France's coach of the year, Guy Lacombe, has accepted a two-year contract extension at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.
Two more years
The 48-year-old's deal with Sochaux was due to expire in 2004, but Lacombe has ended talk of a move to Paris Saint-Germain FC or FC Nantes Atlantique by agreeing a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2006. "He will sign on Friday," said a statement on Sochaux's website.
Lacombe, who was recently voted coach of the year by his Ligue 1 peers, joined Sochaux from En Avant Guingamp in May 2002 and led them to this year's French League Cup final, where they lost 4-1 against AS Monaco FC. Despite a tiny budget, his team are challenging for a European place, occupying fifth position in Ligue 1, a UEFA Cup berth.
Born in the south of France, the former midfield player was a French title winner with Nantes in 1976/77 and a member of the France side that won gold at the 1984 Olympics. He started his coaching career with AS Cannes in 1989 and has also been in charge of Toulouse FC.
