Zviad Sichinava has been elected president of the Georgian Football Federation (GFF) for the next four years at the association's ordinary congress. He had held the post on an interim basis since October 2009.
Mr Sichinava's election comes at a positive time for Georgian football. Interest in the game is growing in the wake of the appointment of Temuri Ketsbaia as national team coach. Under Ketsbaia, Georgia did not lose a single match in 2010.
"All the processes that commenced during my interim term will continue, while the national team have a very intense and interesting year ahead," said the GFF president.
"As for infrastructural issues, our next project is to renovate the training base of the national team. This project is already in progress. Another plan for the near future is to renovate the Mikheil Meskhi stadium in Tbilisi, as well as to construct a new arena in Batumi," Mr Sichinava added.
