Dortmund drop off Bundesliga pace

A 3-2 defeat by Eintracht Frankfurt stopped BV Borussia Dortmund rising to fourth in the Bundesliga while 1. FSV Mainz 05 are eighth after triumphing 1-0 over VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach.

BV Borussia Dortmund remain fifth in the Bundesliga following a 3-2 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt, on a day when 1. FSV Mainz 05 beat VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Hamburger SV's 3-3 draw with 1. FC Köln on Saturday had left the door ajar for Dortmund to move comfortably into fourth and within six points of leaders Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Benjamin Köhler dimmed such hopes eight minutes in, but the hosts restored parity shortly after thanks to Mats Hummels (17). Lucas Barrios (57) then put Jürgen Klopp's team ahead, before strikes from Sebastian Jung and Alexander Meier ensured that Eintracht secured the three points that lifted them into seventh.

One place lower are Mainz, who recorded only their second victory in nine league games courtesy of Bo Svensson's scrappy strike on the stroke of half-time. Mönchengladbach failed to clear a corner and Svensson was on hand to bundle the ball in at the back post.
