Dortmund and Mainz rally to stay on course

Borussia Dortmund maintained peak form to stay top of the Bundesliga, 1. FSV Mainz 05 got three much-needed points, and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and FC Schalke 04 won in style.

Borussia Dortmund remain on top of the Bundesliga after coming from behind to defeat SC Freiburg while 1. FSV Mainz 05 returned to winning ways.

The league leaders were on course for only their second reverse of the season when Mats Hummels put through his own net on 26 minutes. But Robert Lewandowski's 75th-minute strike and a Mensur Mujdža own goal soon after sealed Dortmund's eleventh win in 12 matches to keep them seven points clear.

Mainz also rallied with a 3-2 win at VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach to move second, two points ahead of Bayer 04 Leverkusen, who were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Bayern München. It was a day to forget for Eintracht Frankfurt as they suffered a 4-0 home defeat to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, who leapfrogged them into fifth place. FC Schalke 04 also enjoyed a 4-0 triumph at the expense of fellow UEFA Champions League hopefuls SV Werder Bremen, Raúl González scoring a hat-trick.

Elsewhere, Hannover 96 earned a 3-2 win over Hamburger SV, Mike Hanke grabbing the last-gasp winner, while 1. FC Kaiserslautern had Croatian internationals Stiven Rivić, Ivo Iličević and Srdjan Lakić to thank for a 3-1 win at 1. FC Nürnberg.
