Borussia Dortmund failed to win a league game for only the fourth time this season as struggling VfB Stuttgart earned an unlikely point at the Westfalenstadion. The Bundesliga leaders looked in control after Mario Götze scored (43) but Pavel Pogrebnyak's leveller (84) earned Die Roten a draw.
The frustration for Hannover 96, in second, and 1. FSV Mainz 05 is that they failed to take advantage, losing 1-0 in their respective contests to FC Schalke 04 and VfL Wolfsburg. Raúl González (33) struck his tenth Bundesliga goal of the season for Schalke, while Simon Kjær's close-range header (82) ended a run of seven successive league draws for Wolfsburg.
Dortmund thus stretched their lead to 13 points, although FC Bayern München moved up to third after crushing 1. FC Kaiserslautern 5-1. Mario Gomez continued his remarkable scoring sequence, hitting his fourth hat-trick of the season – moving on to 23 goals in his last 19 matches – with Arjen Robben and Thomas Müller also on target.
Elsewhere, SC Freiburg shared a 1-1 home draw with 1. FC Nürnberg, while Lukas Podolski struck twice as 1. FC Köln moved out of the bottom three by defeating SV Werder Bremen 3-0. On Friday, Hamburger SV won 1-0 against Eintracht Frankfurt, whose coach Michael Skibbe has signed a contract extension until June 2012.
