There was no relief for rock-bottom VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach in Friday's lone Bundesliga fixture, with an own goal credited to goalkeeper Logan Bailly giving fellow strugglers 1. FC Kaiserslautern a 1-0 win.
The Belgian custodian went to fend away a cross just after the hour, but his attempt to punch the ball clear went awry, with the unfortunate 25-year-old merely to swatting it into his own net.
In the night's other big game, Fenerbahçe SK maintained their position at the top of the Turkish Super League with a 2-1 victory at struggling arch-rivals Galatasaray AŞ. Colin Kazım Richards put the home side in front inside 15 minutes, but in the final quarter-hour Semih Şentürk replied for Fenerbahçe, with Alex hitting the winner three minutes from time. Milan Baroš's dismissal soon after capped a grim evening for Galatasaray.
