Hannover too hot for Freiburg

Hannover 96 leapfrogged FC Bayern München into the third UEFA Champions League qualifying place in Germany with a stylish 3-1 success at SC Freiburg on Thursday evening.

Hannover 96 restated their claim to a UEFA Champions League place, moving third in Germany with a 3-1 victory against SC Freiburg.

Mirko Slomka's side are two points ahead of FC Bayern München following a fine display in the south west of Germany. Jan Schlaudraff slipped the ball to the left for Norwegian striker Mohammed Abdellouae to stroke in Hannover's opener on 24 minutes, and then raced on to Altin Lala's precision ball on 31 minutes, rounding the Freiburg goalkeeper before finishing.

Manuel Schmiedebach set up a third just before the hour with Konstantin Rausch meeting his delivery from out on the right with a splendid diving header, before Jan Rosenthal (79) fired in a fine effort for the home side's consolation.
