VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach moved level on points at the top of the Bundesliga after a 1-0 win at struggling Hamburger SV, while 1. FC Köln inflicted an emphatic home defeat on Rhineland rivals Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
A second-half header from Igor De Camargo consigned Hamburg to a fifth loss in six matches − their worst to a season since 1972/73, when they also had one point at this stage. Mönchengladbach share the lead with SV Werder Bremen, who had goalkeeper Tim Wiese sent off 17 minutes into a 1-1 draw with 1. FC Nürnberg.
The top two are a point ahead of in-form FC Bayern München − away to FC Schalke 04 on Sunday, when Borussia Dortmund visit Hannover 96 − and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, who beat VfL Wolfsburg 3-1. The surprise result of the day was provided by Köln, who were 4-1 winners at UEFA Champions League contenders Leverkusen thanks in part to two goals from Lukas Podolski.
Like Hamburg, FC Augsburg are still seeking their first victory following a 2-2 draw with Hertha BSC Berlin while on Friday, VfB Suttgart won 2-1 at SC Freiburg. In the late game, 1. FC Kaiserslautern overcame 1. FSV Mainz 05 3-1.
