Borussia Dortmund continue to set the pace in Germany after recording their sixth successive Bundesliga victory, 1-0 at Hertha BSC Berlin.
Though it took until the 66th minute to break the hosts down, Jürgen Klopp's charges − whose last league defeat came exactly five months ago ‒ scored the only goal of the game through Kevin Grosskreutz.
VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach remain in hot pursuit after a 2-1 success at lowly 1. FC Kaiserslautern kept them within three points of the champions. The visitors raced into a two-goal lead when Patrick Herrmann (9) outpaced his marker to fire Igor de Camargo's pass into the bottom corner and Juan Arango (14) dispatched a delicious chip.
Leon Jessen reduced the arrears (63) but Lucien Favre's side held on to leapfrog FC Bayern München, who were held 0-0 at SC Freiburg in the late fixture.
Fifth-placed SV Werder Bremen overcame Hamburger SV 3-1 thanks to Marko Marin (9), 18-year-old midfielder Tom Trybull (45) and Marko Arnautović (86), while Bayer 04 Leverkusen, in sixth, went one better after sinking struggling FC Augsburg 4-1 with the help of a Stefan Kiessling double. Elsewhere, 1. FC Nürnberg defeated 1. FC Köln 2-1.
