Dortmund reassert authority at Bundesliga summit

An emphatic 6-1 victory for Borussia Dortmund at 1.FC Köln maintained their five-point cushion at the Bundesliga summit, on a day when VfB Stuttgart overcame 1. FC Nürnberg.

Borussia Dortmund reclaimed their five-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga after a comprehensive 6-1 victory against 1.FC Köln, while VfB Stuttgart narrowly overcame 1. FC Nürnberg 1-0.

Despite trailing to Milivoje Novakovič's 13th-minute opener, Łukasz Piszczek ensured Dortmund went into the break on level terms. Jürgen Klopp's charges then put five past the hosts in a dominant second-half display. Shinji Kagawa scored Dortmund's second and Robert Lewandowski added a third on 53 minutes, before İlkay Gündoğan and Ivan Perišić scored either side of Kagawa's second. Defeat for Köln, meanwhile, leaves them a point outside the relegation places.

In the other day's game, Stuttgart registered their fourth win in five league outings to move seventh, and in doing so condemned Nürnberg to their third straight defeat. Cacau settled matters 12 minutes from time with his first Bundesliga strike for more than four months.
