Dortmund keep Bayern at arm's length

Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gomez scored twice in respective victories for Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern München as the German champions held their three-point Bundesliga lead.

Borussia Dortmund remain three points clear at the top of the Bundesliga after Robert Lewandowski scored twice in a 3-1 victory against VfL Wolfsburg.

Though the visitors' two-goal cushion was halved by Croatian international Mario Mandžukić, Lewandowski added to Ilkay Gündogan's second-half effort to confirm a 20th win of the campaign for the German champions.

Bayern capped a successful week with a 2-1 win against FC Augsburg. Mario Gomez, rested for all but 15 minutes of Tuesday's UEFA Champions League quarter-final victory against Olympique de Marseille, set the ball rolling in the first minute.

The Germany striker then celebrated the new contract he signed with the club on Wednesday by registering his 90th goal for the Bavarians (60) to cancel out Ja-Cheol Koo's 23rd-minute equaliser.

Elsewhere, VfB Stuttgart leapfrogged SV Werder Bremen – held 1-1 at 1. FC Köln – into fifth following their 4-1 defeat of 1. FSV Mainz 05, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim won 2-1 at 1. FC Kaiserslautern, and SC Freiburg drew 2-2 with 1. FC Nürnberg. Fourth-placed VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach, meanwhile, were held to a goalless draw by Hertha BSC Berlin in the late fixture.
