FC Schalke 04 moved two points clear of VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach in the race for third spot in the Bundesliga with a 1-1 draw at FC Augsburg.
Fourth-bottom Augsburg took an early lead when Sebastian Langkamp headed in a corner, but Schalke responded seven minutes before the interval when Klaas-Jan Huntelaar notched his 25th league effort this term. They were unable to carve out a winner, however, allowing the hosts to build a four-point cushion between themselves and the relegation zone.
In the day’s other game, Hannover 96 played out a 0-0 draw with SC Freiburg. The result leaves Hannover in seventh, three points below Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
