Substitute Mario Götze produced a cool finish nine minutes from the end of the first game of the new Bundesliga season to give Borussia Dortmund a 2-1 home win against SV Werder Bremen.
The German champions were given a lucky break as they kicked off their hunt for a third successive title with a slip-up in the Bremen defence inviting new signing Marco Reus in on goal to score on 11 minutes, but they looked set to be thwarted when another debutant, Bremen's Theodor Gebre Selassie, glanced in an equaliser with 15 minutes to go, However, Götze was to have the last word, following good work from Polish team-mates Jakub Błaszczykowski and Robert Lewandowski.
