Eintracht Frankfurt suffered their first defeat of the season in a 2-0 reverse at VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach, and there was frustration for champions Borussia Dortmund too as they drew 1-1 at Hannover 96.
Victory would have moved promoted Frankfurt back within three points of leaders FC Bayern München, but they were on the back foot after just eight minutes when Juan Arango fired in from distance. Racing on to a Håvard Nordtveit pass, Luuk de Jong then made it 2-0 midway through the first half as Mönchengladbach halted a run of five Bundesliga games without prevailing.
Four points behind Frankfurt in fourth, Dortmund looked set for a win after Robert Lewandowski put them in front from close range on 26 minutes. Mame Diouf had the final word, however, burying in with four minutes left following a scramble in the area.
In the day's other game, the match between VfB Stuttgart and Bayer 04 Leverkusen ended 2-2, Vedad Ibišević scoring twice for the hosts and Stefan Kiessling on target twice for the Werkself.
