Bayern's Bundesliga lead extended again

FC Bayern München's Bundesliga lead was extended to nine points after they emphatically overcame Hannover 96, while Borussia Dortmund leapfrogged FC Schalke 04 into second.

FC Bayern München stretched their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to nine points with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Hannover 96.

Jupp Heynckes' side drew with 1. FC Nürnberg in their last league outing but got back on track in impressive fashion at Fußball Arena München. The Bavarian giants got going after Javi Martínez's overhead kick handed them a third-minute lead. Toni Kroos' sweeping volley doubled the lead, which Franck Ribéry then extended before the break. Defender Dante and substitute Mario Gomez – the latter in his first league appearance of the season following an ankle injury – completed the scoring.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund triumphed 2-1 at 1. FSV Mainz 05 to leapfrog FC Schalke 04 into second place. Robert Lewandowski's second-half strike earned the win after Marco Reus' sixth league goal had cancelled out Marco Caligiuri's fourth-minute opener.

Despite Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's opener, Schalke were held 1-1 by Eintracht Frankfurt, as were SV Werder Bremen at VfL Wolfsburg after the visitors had Lukas Schmitz dismissed. Markus Feulner and Sercan Sararer each saw red as SpVgg Greuther Fürth and 1. FC Nürnberg both finished with ten men but no goals in the day's third stalemate.
