Bayern stretch lead at Bundesliga summit

Bundesliga leaders FC Bayern München increased their lead over Bayer 04 Leverkusen to 11 points with a 2-0 win at FC Augsburg, while Borussia Dortmund lost to VfL Wolfsburg.

FC Bayern München extended their lead atop the Bundesliga to 11 points with a 2-0 win at FC Augsburg, while ten-man Borussia Dortmund went down 3-2 at home to VfL Wolfsburg.

Last week Jupp Heynckes' charges denied Dortmund the chance to cut their lead by holding them to a 1-1 draw, and the Bavarian giants have now moved 14 points ahead of their third-placed rivals. Thomas Müller's first-half penalty and Mario Gomez's second league goal since his return from injury last month earned them victory against Augsburg.

Dortmund, who qualified top of their UEFA Champions League group, have failed to replicate their European form in the league of late, and Jürgen Klopp's side fell to Wolfsburg despite Marco Reus's early opener. Marcel Schmelzer's first-half red card proved their undoing, conceding a penalty that was converted by Diego. Naldo added another before the break and though Jakub Błaszczykowski's spot kick levelled matters, Bas Dost settled things with his seventh Bundesliga goal since joining Wolfsburg from sc Heerenveen in the summer.

In the pick of the matches elsewhere, a Vedad Ibišević hat-trick earned VfB Stuttgart a 3-1 win against FC Schalke 04 – a game that featured three red cards – and there were five second-half goals as Eintracht Frankfurt beat SV Werder Bremen 4-1.
