Hoffenheim turn to Kurz

Former TSV 1860 München and 1. FC Kaiserslautern coach Marco Kurz has been appointed as Markus Babbel's long-term successor at Bundesliga strugglers TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

Marco Kurz has been appointed as TSG 1899 Hoffenheim coach and will take up the position on 1 January.

The 43-year-old succeeds Markus Babbel, who departed two weeks ago from the club now 16th in the Bundesliga. Kurz will be assisted by Günther Gorenzel, who worked with him at TSV 1860 München and 1. FC Kaiserslautern, while caretaker Frank Kramer will return to his position in charge of Hoffenheim's Under-23 squad.

Kurz played 300 Bundesliga games for VfB Stuttgart, 1. FC Nürnberg, Borussia Dortmund, FC Schalke 04 and 1860 München. He won the 1994/95 title with Dortmund and the UEFA Cup two years later at Schalke. Kurz initially coached SC Pfullendorf before his spells at 1860 and Kaiserslautern, who he led to promotion in 2009/10.
