FC Bayern München have stretched their Bundesliga lead to 11 points after two second-half goals earned them a 2-0 victory against VfB Stuttgart in Baden-Wurttemberg.
Mario Mandžukić, who struck twice against SpVgg Greuther Fürth last time out, pounced on a wayward back pass to open the scoring with his 12th goal of the campaign shortly after the break.
The Croatian forward then turned provider on 72 minutes, whipping in a low centre for Thomas Müller to double the advantage. Stuttgart's evening went from bad to worse ten minutes from time when Martin Harnik was sent off for a second bookable offence.
Also on Sunday, Hamburger SV climbed into the top half of the table with a 3-2 victory in the Nordderby against an SV Werder Bremen side that finished the match with nine men.
The hosts responded in style after conceding Assani Lukimya's early header as goals from Son Heung-Min, Dennis Aogo and Artjoms Rudņevs turned the game around. Sokratis Papastathopoulos pulled Bremen back into contention, but Clemens Fritz (80) and Marko Arnautović (added time) were both dismissed for second bookings and the weakened visitors were unable to find an equaliser.
