Bremen bring in Italy U21 captain Caldirola

"It's a club with great tradition and I'm looking forward to the years ahead," said Italy Under-21 captain Luca Caldirola after agreeing to join SV Werder Bremen on a four-year deal.

SV Werder Bremen have made their first summer signing by luring Italy Under-21 captain Luca Caldirola from FC Internazionale Milano for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old defender, who spent last term on loan with Italian second division outfit Brescia Calcio, has signed a four-year contract. "Luca is a very interesting player with a lot of experience at such a young age," said Bremen chief executive Thomas Eichin. "We saw how much potential he has at the Under-21 Championship.

"He has good technique with an eye for a pass, a creative quality for opening up teams. We're delighted he has decided to join us," added Eichin, whose club finished the 2012/13 Bundesliga campaign in 14th position.

"This is a big chance for me and as soon as I knew of Bremen's interest, I wanted to sign. It's a club with great tradition and I'm looking forward to the years ahead," said Caldirola on the back of playing in every game of Itay's UEFA European U21 Championship campaign, including their 4-2 defeat by Spain in the final.
