A Jefferson Farfán-inspired FC Schalke 04 picked up their first win of the season at the expense of Bayer 04 Leverkusen's 100% record.
Schalke had managed just one point from their first three games, in stark contrast to Leverkusen's start, but they battled to a 2-0 win. Though Kevin-Prince Boateng was making his Schalke debut it was Peruvian forward Farfán who caught the eye, curling in a delightful free-kick for Marco Höger (30) to flick in the opener before scoring the second from the penalty spot himself seven minutes from time.
Meanwhile, Hannover 96 produced a 4-1 comeback win deny in-form 1. FSV Mainz 05 a fourth straight Bundesliga victory. Mainz hit their stride early when Nicolai Müller (12) opened the scoring with his fifth goal of the season, but Hannover's Mame Biram Diouf and Artur Sobiech turned the match on its head by the break. Substitute Didier Konan Ya hit the target with just his third touch ten minutes from time and Edgar Prib added a fourth three minutes later.
VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach beat SV Werder Bremen by the same score, while in the pick of results elsewhere, Hakan Çalhanoğlu hit a double as Hamburger SV earned a first win of the season at the expense of TSV Eintracht Braunschweig, who now have four losses to their name.
