Gladbach get back to winning ways to go fourth

VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach swept aside Eintracht Frankfurt 4-1 to climb into fourth spot in Germany, after Hamburger SV consigned winless SC Freiburg to a 3-0 reverse.

VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach moved up to fourth by dispatching Eintracht Frankfurt 4-1, while Hamburger SV made light work of SC Freiburg.

Memories of last week's 1-0 defeat at Hertha BSC Berlin were fading for Mönchengladbach when playmaker Juan Arango struck after 11 minutes. Stefan Aigner soon restored parity, but the visitors' momentum evaporated when Oscar Wendt hit back three minutes later. Lucien Favre's side then went through the gears after the break, Patrick Herrmann adding a third before Raffael completed the formalities.

Elsewhere, Hamburg stretched their unbeaten sequence to four games at second-bottom Freiburg, who remain winless. Maximilian Beister broke the deadlock on 37 minutes and strike partner Pierre-Michelle Lasogga rubber-stamped the lead shortly after the interval. Netherlands schemer Rafael van der Vaart then put the result beyond doubt with his sixth goal of the campaign.
