Bayern extend lead, Dortmund held

FC Bayern München stretched their Bundesliga lead to seven points by seeing off Hamburger SV 3-1, while Borussia Dortmund had to dig deep to draw 2-2 at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

FC Bayern München stretched their Bundesliga lead to seven points courtesy of a 3-1 home success against Hamburger SV, on a day when Borussia Dortmund were held 2-2 at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.

With second-placed Bayer 04 Leverkusen taking on Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday, Bayern took advantage to put even more space between themselves and their closest rivals. Mario Mandžukić opened the scoring three minutes before the interval and Mario Götze doubled the lead shortly after the restart, with Xherdan Shaqiri making sure of the points in added time after Pierre-Michelle Lasogga had given Hamburg a late lifeline.

As for Dortmund, they fell further off the pace away against Hoffenheim. It could have been worse for Jürgen Klopp's men, though, as they went 2-0 down to first-half goals from Sven Schipplock and Kevin Volland before responding via Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Łukasz Piszczek. The result nonetheless leaves the Schwarzgelben 12 points behind Bayern.

Elsewhere, fourth-placed VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach drew 0-0 at 1. FSV Mainz 05 and FC Augsburg climbed up to eighth by dispatching bottom side TSV Eintracht Braunschweig 4-1.

Hannover 96 recovered from three goals down to hold second-bottom 1. FC Nürnberg 3-3, Mame Diouf registering twice in the last three minutes, while Hertha BSC Berlin lie sixth thanks to Friday's 3-2 defeat of SV Werder Bremen. In the late kick-off, fifth-placed VfL Wolfsburg saw off VfB Stuttgart 3-1.
