The Bundesliga summit is unchanged after leaders FC Bayern München defeated 1. FC Nürnberg 2-0 and Borussia Dortmund dispatched SV Werder Bremen 5-1, following suit after Bayer 04 Leverkusen's Friday night success.
A close-range, cushioned volley from Mario Mandžukić – his 11th league goal of the campaign – put Bayern ahead on 18 minutes and the league leaders never looked back. Philipp Lahm produced something of a collector's item when he doubled the advantage in the second period, the Bayern captain scoring his first goal since December 2010.
The theme continued as Manuel Friedrich scored his first league goal since January 2012 as third-placed Dortmund relished their trip to Bremen. Robert Lewandowski and Henrik Mkhitaryan both scored in each half, completing their respective doubles after Friedrich's rare moment in the sun. Bremen managed a late reply through debutant Levent Aycicek, but have recorded their lowest points tally after 20 games since 1974/75.
On Friday, Leverkusen had tightened their grip on second place with a 1-0 win at out-of-sorts VfB Borussia Mönchengladbach, Son Heung-Min's excellent strike condemning the hosts to a third successive Bundesliga defeat.
Elsewhere, Eintracht Frankfurt sank bottom side TSV Eintracht Braunschweig 3-0 via three first-half goals – a scoreline matched by VfL Wolfsburg at home to 1. FSV Mainz 05. Anthony Modeste hit a late equaliser for TSG 1899 Hoffenheim at SC Freiburg.
