Wolfsburg down Leverkusen, Dortmund humbled

Second-placed Bayer 04 Leverkusen's poor run continued as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat at VfL Wolfsburg, though Borussia Dortmund failed to capitalise as they went down 3-0.

FC Bayern München were Saturday's big winners as nearest rivals Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund both suffered defeats.

After a chastening midweek UEFA Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain, Leverkusen endured more disappointment as they went down 3-1 at VfL Wolfsburg. Bas Dost put the hosts ahead on 13 minutes, only for Sidney Sam to level matters on the stroke of half-time. Luiz Gustavo restored Wolfsburg's advantage after the interval and Ricardo Rodriguez wrapped up the points on 73 minutes, slotting in after his penalty was initially saved by Bern Leno.

Meanwhile, struggling Hamburger SV recorded a resounding 3-0 win against third-placed Dortmund to give Mirko Slomka three points in his first game in charge. Hakan Çalhanoğlu's remarkable swirling, dipping free-kick from 40 metres rounded off the success, which brings to an end a miserable run of seven successive Bundesliga losses for HSV.

Sandro Wagner scored an 87th-minute winner, before being dismissed, in Hertha BSC Berlin's 2-1 win at VfB Stuttgart. It left the capital club seventh, a place above FC Augsburg who came from 2-1 down with 12 minutes remaining to triumph 4-2 at SC Freiburg.

VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach in sixth were held 2-2 by TSG 1899 Hoffenheim while 1. FC Nürnberg's recent surge continued. After failing to win any of their first 17 games of the season, they have now won four of the last five after a 2-1 victory against TSV Eintracht Braunschweig.
