Braunschweig boost survival hopes

Bottom club TSV Eintracht Braunschweig improved their Bundesliga survival prospects with a 3-0 win against ten-man Hannover 96, lifting themselves within two points of safety.

TSV Eintracht Braunschweig gave their Bundesliga survival hopes a shot in the arm with a comfortable 3-0 victory at home against Hannover 96.

Bottom club Braunschweig went ahead with 14 minutes gone when Dominick Kumbela steered past Ron-Robert Zieler after the goalkeeper had failed to deal with Ken Reichel's cross. Håvard Nielsen latched onto a long ball to increase the deficit seven minutes later, and Hannover's afternoon deteriorated further when André Hoffmann was dismissed just after the hour mark.

Jan Hochscheidt made sure of the result for the hosts a minute from time as Braunschweig lifted themselves within two points of safety. As for Hannover, beaten for the fourth consecutive match, they now lie just two points clear of the bottom three.

Also on Sunday, ninth-placed TSG 1899 Hoffenheim kept themselves a spot ahead of Hertha BSC Berlin by securing a 1-1 draw in the capital. Sami Allagui fired Hertha in front with 11 minutes on the clock, only for Eugen Polanski to respond on the lahf-hour.
