Dortmund succeed in style at Bayern

Borussia Dortmund inflicted FC Bayern München's heaviest defeat since May 2012 on a day when VfL Wolfsburg moved into the UEFA Champions League places.

Borussia Dortmund remain three points clear of local rivals FC Schalke 04 in second place after winning 3-0 at champions FC Bayern München – the hosts' heaviest defeat in any competition since a 5-2 reverse to Dortmund in the German Cup final in May 2012.

Dortmund got their revenge after losing 3-0 at home to Bayern earlier this season. Josep Guardiola's side have now dropped eight points in their three games since claiming the title. Henrikh Mkhitaryan's smart angled finish gave BVB the lead and Marco Reus poked in a second after a swift counter early in the second half. Jonas Hofmann lashed in a long ball to complete the scoring. Bayern's misery was compounded when Rafinha was sent off late on.

UEFA Champions League-chasing VfL Wolfsburg rose to fourth in the table after coming from behind to beat 17th-placed 1. FC Nürnberg 4-1. Wolfsburg went into the game one point behind Borussia Mönchengladbach, and fell behind to Markus Feulner's thunderbolt. However, Ivica Olić levelled the scores and his compatriot Ivan Perišić scored either side of Junior Malanda's neat finish to seal the win. Gladbach were displaced after being held 1-1 by 15th-placed VfB Stuttgart.

SC Freiburg boosted their survival prospects, moving four points clear of Stuttgart after beating bottom club Eintracht Braunschweig 2-0. In 16th, Hamburger SV's top-flight future hangs in the balance after a 2-1 reverse at Hannover 96. Didier Konan Ya's late winner inflicted a seventh straight away defeat on Hamburg – their worst run on the road since 2000/01.
