Greece 0-2 Paraguay
Greece completed their preparation ahead of the FIFA World Cup finals with a disappointing performance in a 2-0 defeat against Paraguay in Winterthur, Switzerland.
Otto Rehhagel's men remain winless in 2010 and will now hope to put an end to that streak in their Group B opener against South Korea on 12 June after succumbing to first-half goals from Enrique Vera and Lucas Barrios.
Paraguay took the initiative from the start and came close to scoring on eight minutes with a header by Roque Santa Cruz, Giourkas Seitaridis clearing off the goal line. One minute later, though, the South American outfit did score as Vera shot past goalkeeper Alexandros Tzorvas from close range after Santa Cruz's low effort had struck a post.
It was 2-0 after 25 minutes, Tzorvas producing a fine save to keep out Santa Cruz's header only for Barrios to drive in the rebound. Greece had a goal disallowed in the 32nd minute when Dimitris Salpingidis converted a pass from Sotiris Ninis, and the latter then demanded a decent save from Justo Villar.
There was less of a flow to the contest in the second half although Greece nearly reduced arrears when Villar kept out a solo effort by Vassilis Torosidis. But it was Paraguay who finished the stronger, Avraam Papadopoulos clearing another Santa Cruz effort and substitute Edgar Benítez heading just over from an Aureliano Torres cross.
