Irish women's league to launch

Football Association of Ireland have invited seven clubs including European contenders Peamount United to compete in their new National Women's League from November.

Peamount United, who make their European debut next week, have been announced as one of the seven teams competing in the Republic of Ireland's new National Women's League.

The seven-team competition was unveiled today by the Football Association of Ireland (FAI), with an official launch to follow in October ahead of the first games the following month. Bray Wanderers/St Josephs, Castlebar Celtic FC, Cork Women's FC, Peamount, Raheny United, Shamrock Rovers and Wexford Youths Women's AFC have been invited to compete, and will be met on an individual basis to discuss certain areas around their participation in the League which include marketing, licensing and administration. Previously the national champions and entrants into the UEFA Women's Champions League was decided by the FAI Women's Cup.

Ireland national coach Sue Ronan said: "This is a very exciting time for women's football in Ireland. The new National Women's League will continue to nurture and develop the women's game at domestic and international level. This new National League will be a cornerstone in the future success of our game."
