Breidablik are Icelandic champions for the first time despite being held 0-0 at Stjarnan on the final day.
At kick-off Breidablik led ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar by one point and 2009 champions FH Hafnarfjördur by two, so knew victory would confirm their title. Although Ólafur Kristjánsson's side were not able to win, ÍBV lost 4-1 at Keflavík and while FH triumped 3-0 at Fram Reykjavík – their sixth victory in a row – they were pipped by Breidablik on goal difference.
Having made their continental debut this season with two 1-0 losses to Motherwell FC in the UEFA Europa League second qualifying round, Breidablik can now look forward to a bow in the UEFA Champions League preliminaries next year. Icelandic Cup winners FH and ÍBV, who finished third, go into the UEFA Europa League.
