Roma and Milan draw blanks

There was nothing to separate AS Roma and AC Milan as the pair drew 0-0 at the Stadio Olimpico, although there were goals in Florence, where Juventus defeated ACF Fiorentina 2-1.

Scudetto hopefuls AS Roma and AC Milan drew 0-0 at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday evening, a result which did neither team any significant favours in their bid to catch Serie A leaders FC Internazionale Milano.

Although the outcome maintained Milan's three-point lead over their third-placed opponents, it means Inter can pull six clear of the Rossoneri by defeating Genoa CFC at San Siro on Sunday. In a first half shorn of any significant opportunities, Júlio Baptista's snapshot tested Christian Abbiati, while at the other end Marco Borriello screwed his effort wide after being played in by Ronaldinho. The second period followed a similar pattern, with Milan spurning the best two opportunities to win it, first Borriello being denied by goalkeeper Júlio Sérgio and Klaas Jan Huntelaar heading over late on.

In the night's other match, Juventus defeated ACF Fiorentina 2-1 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, the Viola's seventh defeat in their last ten matches in all competitions. Diego (2) gave the visitors the perfect start when he evaded the offside trap, ran on to Antonio Candreva's pass and waltzed around Sébastien Frey.

Fiorentina equalised through former Bianconeri midfielder Marco Marchionni (32), but were undone again midway through the second half when Fabio Grosso angled the ball across Frey after being played in by Mohamed Sissoko. Juventus climb a place to fourth, one point above U.S. Città di Palermo, while Fiorentina remain tenth.
