There were mixed fortunes for Italy's three UEFA Champions League contenders on Saturday as FC Internazionale Milano beat Udinese Calcio while both AC Milan and AS Roma suffered defeats.
Milan lost 2-0 at AC Cesena, playing their first home game back in Serie A after two straight promotions. First-half goals from Erjon Bogdani and Emanuele Giaccherini proved enough for Cesena, and late on Zlatan Ibrahimović – like Robinho making his Milan debut – hit the post with a penalty.
Cesena had already begun the season with a goalless draw at Roma and the Giallorossi's unhappy start continued as they lost 5-1 at Cagliari Calcio, with Nicolás Burdisso sent off on 22 minutes after conceding the penalty from which Alessandro Matri put the home side 2-1 up. Cagliari and Cesena are now on four points, just like Inter after they defeated Udinese 2-1, Samuel Eto'o claiming the winner on the rebound after Samir Handanovič had saved his 67th-minute penalty.
