AC Milan needed Filippo Inzaghi's equaliser to salvage a 1-1 draw at home against Calcio Catania and S.S. Lazio had to fight back from behind to see off ACF Fiorentina.
Milan's midweek UEFA Champions League win against AJ Auxerre came after a surprise 2-0 loss to promoted AC Cesena, and Massimiliano Allegri's charges found the domestic going tough again as they fell behind to Ciro Capuano's superb 27th-minute volley at San Siro. In for the injured Pato, Inzaghi levelled from close range just before half-time, but he and his colleagues were unable to conjure a winner and now find themselves on four points from three games.
Prior to that match, Lazio recorded their second victory in three outings thanks to Libor Kozák's maiden goal for the club. Having spent last season on loan at Brescia Calcio, the 21-year-old fired a 67th-minute winner for the capital side away to Fiorentina, Cristian Ledesma having earlier responded to Adem Ljajić's penalty for the hosts.
