S.S. Lazio have taken over at the Serie A summit after a 1-0 home victory against Brescia Calcio, with FC Internazionale Milano failing to overtake them after being held by Juventus in the late game.
Stefano Mauri's goal on the stroke of half-time was enough to seal the points for the Biancocelesti, with Brescia's chances hampered by the 74th-minute dismissal of Alessandro Diamanti. Inter would have topped the standings on goal difference had they downed the Bianconeri but they failed to score again after losing 1-0 at AS Roma last weekend.
SSC Napoli joined Inter and AC Milan – 1-0 winners at Parma FC yesterday – two points shy of the leaders as they overcame Roma 2-0. Marek Hamšík and a Juan own goal in the final 18 minutes left the UEFA Champions League hopefuls one place off the foot of the table.
ACF Fiorentina are level on points with Roma after losing 2-1 at home to US Città di Palermo, while Luca Toni struck a 95th-minute winner as ten-man Genoa CFC edged AS Bari 2-1.
