Ten-man S.S. Lazio eked out a difficult 1-0 success at US Città di Palermo to establish a four-point lead in Serie A, on a day when both SSC Napoli and UC Sampdoria stepped up the pressure on the leading quartet.
Lazio's winning run continues as they posted their fifth consecutive victory to consolidate their grip on top spot. André Dias volleyed in the capital club's first chance on 27 minutes and they held on after that, with goalkeeper Fernando Muslera performing heroics before and after Giuseppe Biava's 77th-minute dismissal.
In fifth place, Napoli moved level with Juventus courtesy of Ezequiel Lavezzi's 77th-minute winner in a 1-0 victory at Brescia Calcio, that result keeping them a point ahead of Sampdoria, who had Giampaolo Pazzini's added-time strike to thank for a 1-0 triumph at third-bottom AC Cesena.
Udinese Calcio's 2-0 victory at AS Bari lifted them to eighth and dropped their opponents to the foot of the table, while Bologna FC slipped to 19th after succumbing 2-0 at Cagliari Calcio. Parma FC climbed out of the bottom three with a 0-0 draw against AC Chievo Verona and the match between Calcio Catania and ACF Fiorentina also failed to produce a goal.
