FC Internazionale Milano lifted themselves back to within five points of Serie A leaders AC Milan with an impressive 5-2 defeat of Genoa CFC.
Needing victory to keep the pressure on their city neighbours – who overcame Juventus 1-0 on Saturday – Inter nonetheless found themselves trailing to Rodrigo Palacio's 40th-minute opener. The hosts turned things around after the restart, however, with Giampaolo Pazzini (50) notching his fifth in eight league outings and Samuel Eto'o scoring twice (51, 57). Substitutes Goran Pandev (71) and Yuto Nagatomo (84) made sure of the result ahead of Mauro Boselli's last-minute consolation for Genoa.
Inter now lie three points clear of SSC Napoli, who could only draw 0-0 with second-bottom Brescia Calcio. At the foot of the table, AS Bari succumbed to 1-0 at Udinese Calcio as Antonio di Natale's 76th-minute penalty and 22nd effort this term left the victors in fifth. One place and a point better off are S.S. Lazio, who prevailed 2-0 against US Città di Palermo thanks to two Giuseppe Sculli strikes.
In Sunday's other games, AC Cesena climbed out of the bottom three courtesy of a 3-2 success at UC Sampdoria and ACF Fiorentina downed Calcio Catania 3-0, Adrian Mutu scoring twice. Bologna FC drew 2-2 with Cagliari Calcio and there were no goals between AC Chievo Verona and Parma FC.
