Cosmi replaces Di Francesco as Lecce coach

Serse Cosmi has taken over as coach of Serie A's bottom side US Lecce after Eusebio Di Francesco departed in the wake of Saturday's 4-2 Serie A defeat at SSC Napoli.

US Lecce have parted company with coach Eusebio Di Francesco in the wake of Saturday's 4-2 Serie A defeat at SSC Napoli, replacing the 42-year-old with Serse Cosmi.

Di Francesco, capped 12 times as a midfielder by Italy while playing for AS Roma, took charge at Lecce this summer. Yet after two wins – and more tellingly nine defeats – in their opening 13 league games, his side lie at the foot of the Italian table with just eight points. He is the eighth Serie A coach to lose his job this season.

The 53-year-old Cosmi, has been unemployed since a five-week spell in charge at US Città di Palermo last season ended in April. He has previously coached AC Perugia, Genoa CFC, Udinese Calcio, Brescia Calcio and AS Livorno Calcio.
