Ambrosini agrees to another year at Milan

AC Milan captain Massimo Ambrosini has agreed to take his Rossoneri career into a 17th campaign after signing a new deal that will prolong his San Siro stay until June 2013.

Massimo Ambrosini will spend a 17th season with AC Milan after agreeing to extend his contract with the Serie A runners-up until June 2013.

In a week in which several club veterans such as Alessandro Nesta, Filippo Inzaghi, Gennaro Gattuso and Gianluca Zambrotta announced their decision to leave the Rossoneri, Ambrosini, the Milan captain, has bucked the trend by opting to stay on.

The midfielder, who turns 35 on 29 May, joined the Diavolo from AC Cesena in 1995 and has remained with the Italian giants ever since, with the exception of the 1997/98 season, which was spent on loan at Vicenza Calcio. Capped 35 times by Italy, Ambrosini has enjoyed a glittering career, winning the UEFA Champions League twice, the Scudetto four times and the Coppa Italia on one occasion. He has scored 29 goals in 324 league appearances for the seven-time European club champions.

Milan, who reached the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals this season, will return to group stage of next season's edition after finishing second in Serie A, with the help of Ambrosini's 22 appearances and one league goal.
